Celtic’s reported interest in Scotland international Scott McKenna has been reignited, but any deal to bring the centre-back to Parkhead could come at a significant cost. Dinamo Zagreb have reportedly set a substantial asking price for the former Aberdeen stopper, who is on the verge of claiming his first league winners’ medal in Croatia.
McKenna, who made his name in Scottish football during an impressive spell at Pittodrie, has established himself as a key figure at Dinamo Zagreb and continues to attract admiring glances from a host of clubs. Celtic are understood to be among those monitoring the defender’s situation closely as they look to strengthen their backline.
The 28-year-old’s experience at both club and international level makes him an attractive proposition for the Hoops, who are always on the lookout for quality additions – particularly those already familiar with the demands of Scottish football. McKenna’s physicality and composure on the ball would suit Martin O’Neill’s style of play perfectly.
However, Dinamo Zagreb’s willingness to slap a mega price tag on the defender could complicate matters. Celtic have shown they are prepared to invest when the right opportunity presents itself, but whether they’re willing to meet Zagreb’s valuation remains to be seen as the transfer window approaches.
With competition from other interested parties, Celtic will need to move decisively if they want to land McKenna. The Parkhead faithful will be hoping the club can find a way to get a deal over the line and add further Scottish international quality to an already impressive squad.
